Using tables for text and images

Objective: Establish a table with two columns and two rows to add an image and text on your home page: describing the Wiki or stating its purpose

Tables are the key to visual versatility and organization on a Wiki. They provide a fundamentally important way to control the content of your Wiki page. Once you start using them, you'll think of dozens of applications!

Task 2: Using tables to position text and images on the home page

   1.  Building and Designing Tables:

Putting a table on your page is a snap.

  1. Go to the home page by clicking the Wiki tab at the top left.
  2. Click EDIT
  3. Click 'Table' in the Toolbar, select 'Insert Table' and select the number of columns and rows. Our table is going to be 2x2.

When you select 'Insert Table,' move your cursor over the desired number of rows and columns. When you find the configuration you want, click. The table is automatically installed.

And your result should look like this:

   2. Describing the Wiki or stating its purpose:

You uploaded an image to a folder representing the purpose of your Wiki. Now it's time to describe your Wiki or express its purpose on the page:
Think of answers to these questions: Who is your Wiki for and what would you like to accomplish?

Then click the top right column of the table on your home page and add some text, indicating the purpose of your wiki.
       Click SAVE
.

Examples: Technology English Class by Katia Hameg and Emily's CALL Resource by Chen Yi (Emily) Song

   3. Adding an image to your home page

Locate a picture from your image folder in the Wiki (see downloading and uploading images tutorial to review this process).

   4. Editing the picture:

To edit the picture to make it look like the one on the left, do this:

 a. Resize the imageClick the image until you see a cross  with four arrows. Select one of the corner handles and pull out (make larger) or push in (make smaller).

 b. Right-click the picture and select Edit image.

 c. Click "Has border".

 d. Lastly, cite the source of your image underneath the
     picture.

       Example: Source: Google Images
