Embedding Video

Objective: Embedding a video on your wiki site.

Embedding video provides your class with engaging, relevant content chosen by you. It also provides a means of contextualizing a lesson and is a great way to start a class session. Video focuses student attention; embedded video minimizes the risk of cybermeandering.

1. Make sure you are in Edit mode.

2. Choose the location on the page to place the video:

Usually tables are the best way to control video placement, so you should set up a table.

Or if you wish, you can simply install the video on the page and choose the alignment just as you would an image.

3. Embed Video

There are two ways to embed a video.

a. Using the 'toolbar' "Insert" method

b.  Embedding a YouTube Video Using Source Code

4. Embedding a YouTube video using the 'Insert" button:

First, find the YouTube video that you want to use. Then follow these steps:

1. Click on 'Share.' The 'Share this video' will appear.

2. Click on 'Embed.' The line of code highlighted in the screen shot on the right will disappear, replaced by the line of code you see in the second screen shot.

3. Copy the Embed Code

4. Return to your Wiki site.

5. Click Edit to go into Edit mode so you can add the Video

6. Click the Insert Button

7. Select HTML from the dropdown menu.  An Insert Plugin box appears

8. Paste the YouTube Embed Code into the input box.  Click Next.

9. An Insert Plugin box appears. Click Insert Plugin. The green strip now appears on your Wiki page.  Click save to view your video on the Wiki page.
