Embedding Maps
Objective: Embedding a map on your wiki site.
Embedding maps lets your class explore their immediate geographical surroundings without leaving your established wiki page.
How to embed a Google Map:
1. Go to https://maps.google.com. Search for the location you'd like to highlight. For our example, let's use the Dallas Convention Center.
2. When you've found the location, you can zoom in or out depending on your preference. Use the guide keys in the top left corner.
3. When you've adjusted the map to the area you want, click the 'Link' button and copy the 'embed' code.
4. Go to the wiki page where you'd like to place the map. Click 'EDIT', then place your cursor over the area where you'd like to embed the map and click.
This map is going to be embedded in ______. |
5. In the Toolbar, click 'Insert' and choose HTML/Javascript. When the input box appears, paste the embed code there, and click Save.
6. Save your page.
Always!!! |
7. Congratulations! You have successfully installed a GoogleMap on your wiki page.
Google helpfully provides a link to a 'larger map.' If you don't really want this kind of help, you'll need to know some source code to disable or conceal the link. If you're inexperienced with source code, then it's best just to live with the extra link. It's OK -- you'll get to be friends.
